Clinging to Hope

Within the Christian writing world of which I am like a mere grain of sand within vast beaches, most of my friends choose a word of the year. Maybe the word chooses them.

I’ve chosen a lifetime word, based on one of my favorite Scripture verses—Psalm 39:7 (KJV) My hope is in thee. The 1828 Noah Webster American Dictionary of the English Language defines hope. Hope is A desire of some good, accompanied with at least a slight expectation of obtaining it, or a belief that it is obtainable.

During the sermon this past Sunday, Pastor Justin said, The world doesn’t have the power to sustain hope.

As a Christian, I put every hope I’ve ever had in the hands of our Sovereign Lord.

HOPE AND PRAYER

Philippians 4:6 (ESV) says, Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. When we pray, don’t we do so with a heart full of hope? I know I do.

We follow a YouTube channel, www.gotquestions.org and we highly recommend it. They answer all manner of questions as it relates to the Bible and Christianity. They say the biblical definition of hope is The sure and confident expectation of receiving what God has promised us in the future.

HOPE AND FAITH

It sounds to me that biblical hope is possibly closely aligned with faith. Hebrews 11:1 (ESV) says, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. I will admit, I had a hard time with this when I was younger and first heard this verse. Now, I get it. I have faith that my hopes for loved ones and my prayers for them will one day come to fruition.

I don’t doubt that God has heard my prayers or that He knows all the hopes held within my heart. But knowing this doesn’t mean I stop praying or hoping. I pray for these things daily. And my biggest hope is to see them come to pass in my lifetime. Psalm 27:13 (ESV) I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

I know you have hopes. You’ve prayed for many things and I’m sure you hope God will grant your hearts’ desires. Now, I don’t mean things like a bigger house, or a flashy new car. Those are things of this earth and are only temporary. I’m speaking of eternal things. I’ve recently seen this on social media, and I’m only paraphrasing: A mother tells her children she prays for them every day because they are the only things she can take to heaven with her.

OUR OMNIPOTENT GOD

As Pastor Justin stated Sunday, The world doesn’t have the power to sustain hope.  My friends, the world may not, but we serve and worship the One who is omnipotent. Thanks be to God.

Blessings, y’all!

Great words! Hope has a name-Jesus!

My word for the year was HOPE. I have tried 3 times to get off of Metoprolol – a beta blocker that was given to me for palpitations. I didn’t like its side effects and it is not supposed to be given to patient’s with asthma, but the doctors ignored that. It took me from mid-February until April 1st to be completely off, because you have to go slowly and I kept having health problems from stopping it. Now I’m free and the symptoms are going away. The whole time I kept telling God my hope was in Him and I knew He was helping me. Now I’m free of the medication and the side effects.
