Our Words Matter – They Can Change Lives

I’ve touched on this subject before, but when we experience such, it goes to a whole new level.

Our words matter. See my previous post about this here: bit.ly/3Lh0TS7

Even our Facebook posts, which some will gloss right over, matter.

A POST THAT MADE A DIFFERENCE

I had one such experience this week as I was checking out my morning feed. After the multitude of ads, my friend, Lori Slice Hatcher had a post that caught my eye.

She related a book titled How To Read a Book, by Mortimer Adler. Find it here: bit.ly/46dlajT  Then, she went on to share a link to a post by Marshall Segal at desiringGod dot org., titled How To Read a Book By God, Eight Questions for Better Understanding.

DIVINE INTERVENTION

Intrigued, I began to read the article. I didn’t get far the first time because, right in the middle of thinking about what he had to say, a thought came to me about my own WIP (work in progress) and a huge problem I have with it. This idea could have come only from God as I’d pondered for weeks about what was wrong and how to fix it. He cares about us in ways we cannot begin to imagine. Read Psalm 139:1-18.

The first problem is that, as the author, I’m too close to my own work. This happens more than one would think. But we’ve read our words so many times, that we don’t always see the forest for the trees. Cliché, but it works. As our Sunday school teacher told us Sunday, we see what we thought we were saying rather than what is on the page. If that makes sense to you. It does to me.

MORE THAN JUST A STORY

I won’t go into all the details as this post isn’t about that. This is about how someone’s words impacted me and an issue in my life. Now, you may think reviving a work of fiction has no Kingdom merit, but many people who would never pick up a Bible will read fiction. Their purpose for Christian authors isn’t merely to entertain, though we pray they do carry that quality. Their purpose when one has been called to this by God, is to advance His Kingdom on earth and to bring Him glory.

BLESSINGS AND BONUSES

Who am I to question how God gives me answers to my dilemmas, no matter how great or small they may be? As a bonus, I got to read this very good article by Mr. Segal. I’ve put a link above for you. I hope it will help as you read through your own Bible. May His Truth shine through.

Never doubt that your words matter, whether spoken or in print. There is power in them to destroy or to build up. Read Proverbs 18:21. I pray yours and mine will always be the latter.

Blessings, y’all!

By now, you’ve figured out I’m a Gaither Vocal Band fan. I wonder how many lives have been changed by their singing of words that are so precious to us.  You also know I’m a BIG

Larry Ford fan. His mother-in-law, Mama Lessie prayed over my precious Sissy so many times before they both left us for the arms of Jesus. I know they’re singing together now.

Great reminder to be careful what we say and how we say it. As you pointed out (with writing),it might not sound the same once it comes out as it did in our heads. Also, thanks for the encouragement to write our words in fiction or otherwise, if we feel God is calling us to.

      Jane,
Some of these lessons are harder to learn than others. Life is full of all manner of lessons for those of us who are but human.

Thanks for your post, Debbie. I think alot of my blogs are about how our words and actions affect others. I appreciate reading other perspectives.
