What We Gain When We Choose Jesus

I awakened this morning thinking about Moses on Mt. Sinai and his meeting with God. This event is in Exodus chapters 19 and 20. This is where God gives Moses the Ten Commandments. Other laws follow concerning things like altars, how to treat slaves, laws about the Sabbath and Festivals, and laws about social justice.

These chapters reflect so much that is going on in our world today. Here’s the thing, man is fallen.  Because of The Fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, man is born fallen. Who was it that initiated their fall?

THE FATHER OF LIES

None other than satan himself. Words in red in the Gospel of John, meaning they were said by Jesus, say this: “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:42-44 ESV).

Profound, and reflects our society today with so many listening to the devil. The words and actions of many bear no signs of belonging to Jesus.

JESUS’s GIFTS TO US

It boggles my mind—to have the gift of grace, forgiveness of sins, spending eternity in the presence of God. And yet . . . many have turned their backs, saying Jesus was just a good man or a prophet, not the Son of God.

What a mockery they make of all that He suffered for all mankind—His miracles, His death, and His resurrection.

JESUS THE ONLY WAY

Jesus tells us in the Gospel of John, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 ESV). Read that again. Jesus is truth. He cannot lie.

He is the only way to eternal life.

OUR WORLD AND COUNTRY – IN TROUBLE

Friends, this world is in trouble. Our country is in trouble. We are called by Jesus, in the Gospel of Matthew to spread the Good News. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20 ESV).

ETERNAL LIFE CAN BE YOURS – HERE’S HOW

Jesus offers us eternal life in His presence and in the presence of God, our Father. Because eternal life is a gift, we must receive it in order to gain the things mentioned above. If you desire that assurance but aren’t sure how to get it, know the Bible tells us in Romans 10: 9, If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (ESV).

FREE WILL – IT’S YOUR CHOICE

The choice is yours. Will you side with satan or with Jesus? I’ve decided to follow Jesus. I pray you will too. Following Jesus isn’t about the things you can’t do. It’s about what you gain. It’s about having the gifts of the Holy Spirit, thereby displaying the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians: 5: 22-23 ESV).  I think we all need these. I know I do, but it takes work and staying in God’s Word. Jesus tells us in Mark 9: 23 “All things are possible for one who believes.” (ESV).

A good place to start is by reading the Gospel of John. Then, read the book of Romans. Remember this, All Scripture is breathed out by God (2 Timothy 3:16 a, ESV).

Blessings, y’all.

By now you know that I am a huge fan of Paul Wilbur’s music. He was a young man here. Now, he is around my age. The words are straight from the Bible. His music is beautiful and it has blessed us so much. I pray this touches your heart. The only thing getting us through these dark days of unrest is being in His presence. Blessings, y’all!

Thank you for these encouraging words, Debbie. You are so right. The choice we make is on whom to follow is the most important choice we’ll make in our lives.
