A Peek at Week 6 of The Truth Project

Last week I told you about The Truth Project by Del Tackett. This was sponsored by Focus on the Family. I do hope you will look into watching these videos. They are so, so good.

We just watched week or tour number six. Its title is History – Whose Story? I want to give you a look at this to encourage you to see the entire series.

GOD IS IN CONTROL

Dr. Tackett began with this verse—Remember the former things of old; for I am God , and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’ calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country. I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass; I have purposed, and I will do it (Isaiah 46:9-11 ESV).

The thing we must remember in these trying times is God is Sovereign. He is in control. Even when we can’t see it, He is carrying out His plan. Here, Dr. Tackett gives us this verse—

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons (Galatians 4:4-5 ESV). He reminds us, when the time was right, God acted.

THE PAST AFFECTS THE FUTURE

To see how we think and see things today, how we relate and react to them, we must take a look at the past, not change it but learn from it.

Long before we became a nation, the Pilgrims formed the Mayflower Compact. In that, they stated that their purpose for coming here was for the glory of God and to advance Christianity.

He continues and says today we have historical revisionists all around us. They are smart enough to know that if you can change the past, or the intentions or mindset of the past, they can convince you to change your view of the present and the future.

THE FIRST DISTORTION OF THE TRUTH

All this began in the Garden of Eden when satan said to Eve, Did God actually say? (Read Genesis 3:1-5 ESV).

He then takes us to Matthew 28:11-15. This was clearly trying to rewrite what actually occurred. Verse 15 here says: And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day (ESV). Sadly, it is still held as truth despite Apostles who witnessed the risen Christ. Despite more than 500 people seeing Him ascend into heaven.

God provided many ways for the Israelites to remember. Joshua 4:1-8 tells of the crossing of the Jordan River and the placing of the 12 memorial stones. God wants us to remember, but how easy it is to forget.

REMEMBER SO WE DON’T FORGET

Today, it seems we’ve forgotten so much of what God has done for us. So much of His Word. He even tells us in Deuteronomy what will happen if we do not obey His voice. Read all of Deuteronomy 8:10-20. Verse 20 says, Like the nations that the LORD makes to perish before you, so shall you perish, because you would not obey the voice of the LORD your God (ESV).

We are to remember all the things God has told us. He’s given it to us in His Word, the Bible. Without history, without remembering the past, and with alterations to it to fit someone else’s agenda, we are lost.

This post began with Isaiah and I will end with Isaiah.

Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon (Isaiah 55:6-7 ESV).

Blessings, y’all!

May this be our prayer for our nation on this July 4th.

What a sweet voice. This is actually an anthem turned into a solo. We sang this in B’ham. And this young lady is from Maryville, TN (we all know it’s said “Mer-ville”). Y’all she was just a junior in high school. I’d love to hear her now, 11 years later.     John 8:32

I love all the scripture and truths that you shared from The Truth Project.

I love 2 Peter 1:3 “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.”

Using the scriptures you shared helps us remember what to do and not do if we want to live out that godly life. I’m so grateful for your blog and the resources you share with us.
