I Wish I’d Asked That – Family Questionnaire Part II

by Debra DuPree Williams @DDuPreeWilliams

Last week I asked if you had begun a memoir and I gave you a list of questions to ask family members in case you aren’t into writing a memoir.

I hope that you enjoyed reading through those and that you may have gotten to interview a relative or two.

This week, we continue with part two of the questions regarding your adulthood.

Tell Us About Your Adult Years:
  • What was your first job? Where was it, what were your duties? Did you like it?

  • How did you meet your spouse?

  • What was your first date?

  • Where did you get engaged?

  • Did you have a big wedding or a simple ceremony?

  • Where did you get married? Why there?

  • Who was in your wedding party?

  • Who officiated at your wedding?

  • Were your parents supportive?

  • Did you have a honeymoon? Where did you go?

  • Where did you live? What are some memories of this place?

  • Did you ever own your own home?

  • Where was your first home?

  • How many times did you move? Why?

  • If you attended church, where was it and what denomination was it?

  • Did you serve in any capacity? Choir member? Elder? Deacon? Usher? Nursery?

  • How long did you wait before starting your family? Why?

  • How many kids, if any, did you have?

  • Why did you give them the names they have?

  • For the moms, did you work outside the home? Where? Tell us about your job.

  • Did your kids attend public or private school or did you home-school? Why?

  • Did you take family vacations?

  • Where did you go? Tell about your favorite memories of these.

  • Did you ever do volunteer work? Where? What were your duties?

  • Were you in the military? What made you decide to do this?

  • What branch of the service were you in?

  • How many years did you serve?

  • Were you in combat? Where? Were you wounded?

  • Where did you go to boot camp? What is your favorite memory of that time?

  • What was your military job?
  • What rank did you obtain?Did any of your other family members serve? Who? Where? When?

I hope these questions lead you to even more questions and that you found them helpful and thought-provoking. Next week I’ll post part three and we’ll go into your extended family.

If you have additional questions for this portion, please post them below and share your thoughts with us.
