Family Reunions – Sharing Old Memories and Making New
The NLT version of the Bible mentions family in some form 399 times. Family is so important that the Bible lists the genealogy of Jesus in both the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke.
Family reunions are always interesting. When I was a child, my Daddy’s side of our family met in south Alabama every year in July. It was held at a place with spring water feeding the pools. Watermelons were placed in nearby small holes formed by the cold springs. Just mentioning them makes my mouth water.
Cousins who lived far away, whose lives were far different from ours were met with uncertainty. For a brief moment in time, it was if we’d known one another forever. Did we even understand our relationship? Maybe some did, some likely did not.
Sadly, after the death of my Grandaddy, these reunions ceased. I was only thirteen, so it has been a while. The cousins have tried to keep in touch to the best of our abilities. With so many miles stretching between us, we’re all thankful for social media and the ease of maintaining our relationships.
OUR FAMILY REUNION
Just yesterday, my husband and his sisters met for the first time in seven years. The middle child of the three siblings has lived in Greece for the past fifty years. She arrived last evening, back to their hometown where the elder sister lives. Hubby and I have been here for a couple of days anticipating her arrival along with our elder sister.
So, this post is going to be brief as we all get reacquainted with one another. I’ll take a step back and allow the siblings to relive their shared childhood moments and memories of their parents. I feel truly blessed to call these two wonderful women my sisters. I treasure them as I treasured my late sister who went to her eternal home in 2021.
Where we live, family reunions usually take place in the summertime. Do you have a tradition of family reunions? Share your experiences with us.
