When This is Over

Those four words are the ones I’ve heard over and over in the past few weeks. I’m sure you’ve heard them, too. Perhaps you’ve even spoken them. I have.

Just four little words. Not profound unto themselves, and yet they say so much. They point to an equally little word. Another with four letters, but one which holds so much promise.

Hope.

Without hope, there would be no utterance of when this is over. There would be only despair and grim acceptance that this is the way life will be from this point forward. There would be no more family gatherings, no more hugs. No more dinner with friends. No more play-dates for our kids. No more life as we knew it.

But those of us who know God, who know His son Jesus as our Lord and Savior, know that this isn’t how things end. We’ve read the end of The Book.

Things may not ever be exactly as we knew them in the past, but I have hope that we will get close. There may be more regulations about certain aspects of our lives. We will all be more aware of how vulnerable we are to even the unseen, something as small as a virus.

I chose hope as my life word a while ago.  It’s one of those words that is difficult to define, yet we all know exactly what it means. If you’re like me, you have a hard time defining it without the use of the word hope. I hope you understand what I’m trying to say. See what I mean?

Those four words point to hope in that they don’t say If this is over. That one little word, when, implies that there is hope. There is an end to this.

So next time you hear those four words, and I know you will hear them countless times in the next few days and weeks, maybe even months, be filled with hope.

My life verse says it all for me Psalm 39:7 My hope is in Thee. (NASB).

Are you growing weary? Do you still have hope? Share your feelings with us.

If you’re growing weary during these days of sheltering-in-place, please reach out to someone. I’ll be glad to be that person. I’m here. I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be glad to share with you my hope for our future. I know you’ve seen me quote Jeremiah 29:11 countless times. In case you don’t know it or have forgotten—“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV)

I have that hope because of John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. (NASB)
