The Power of Your Faith

Where we worship, our pastor has been going through the Gospel of Mark. This past Sunday, he presented, complete with photos from the area, the story of Jesus meeting with people inside Peter’s home. Remember when the group brought their friend, the paralytic so Jesus could heal him? The text says Jesus was at home. Justin told us that Jesus spent so much time at Peter’s home, that Jesus thought of it as home.

Pastor Justin showed us a couple of photos explaining how the houses in Capernaum at the time were built. Go read Mark 2:1-12 for this story if you aren’t familiar with it. Refresh your memory if it’s been a while.

Know the thoughts below are mine and not something Justin said, and also remember, I’m no Bible scholar.

HOLY LAND IN PHOTOS

On a trip to the Holy Land, Pastor Justin learned about many things and took photos of them. I appreciate him sharing this with us. Back then homes were built with big beams laid across the outer walls and sticks piled very closely together to close the gaps. On top of this, they layered dirt to a depth of about one foot to keep out the rain.

Back to those friends of the paralytic. The group were so determined to gain access to Jesus for their friend that they cut a hole through the roof of the home and lowered the paralytic through it to where Jesus was. Imagine how difficult a task this would have been. Why did they do this?

If you haven’t read this story yet, go do that now and make note of verse 5—And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

YOUR FAITH

Have you ever noticed that it wasn’t the paralytic’s faith that caused Jesus to forgive him? It was the faith of his friends. Read the remainder of the passage if you haven’t so that it all makes sense and comes together. When you read this, then you will see that the paralytic also had faith in Jesus. We see this revealed in the actions of the paralytic at the end of the story.

Do you have faith like that for your friends or family? Do you believe and trust in the power of your faith? Of course, the power to change us comes from Jesus, but our faith has power of its own when we put our trust in and have faith in Jesus.

PRAY WITHOUT CEASING . . . BELIEVING

Who in your life do you need to bring before the foot of the cross? Even if they don’t have faith, your faith carries power, so take their name to Jesus, and pray without ceasing. Pray believing that He is able to change their hearts, minds, spirits, their circumstances, and their eternity. Soli Deo Gloria!

Blessings, y’all!

I didn’t know this one. I’m Praying for each of you. He is able!!

I enjoyed this post so much. It is amazing the strong faith and what Jesus did for these people because of it, as He does for us. I loved the picture and thinking of Jesus’ thoughts that at Peter’s house, He was home.
