Pray Boldly In Faith And Believe

Are you praying for something you don’t know if you’ll be around to see fulfilled? I get that. My husband and I have been praying fervently for many things we may never see come to fruition.

Does that mean we stop praying?

Absolutely not.

In fact, because we may reach our heavenly home before many of these things come to pass, we pray even more fervently. But how do we pray?

PRAY IN FAITH

We pray in faith–and believe.

We pray trusting (having faith) God to do the work He began long ago. Philippians 1:6 says, And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ (ESV).

Matthew 21:22 says, And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith. (ESV) This was Jesus speaking to His disciples.

The big word here is the smallest one—if.

That’s a mighty big word to be so small. It carries a lot of weight. IF you have faith. Hebrews 11: 1 defines faith thusly, Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (ESV).

MUSTARD SEED FAITH

That kind of faith is difficult for us humans. We are show-me kind of people. Jesus tells His disciples in Luke 17:6 that if they had faith even as small as a grain of mustard seed, they could tell a nearby mulberry tree to be uprooted and move to the sea and it would obey them.

I’m sure they scratched their heads at that one. A mustard seed is tiny.

One thing we have to remember is that it isn’t just anyone telling them these things—it’s Jesus Himself.

There are far too many examples of faith in the Bible for me to list all of them. But look in your concordance and see just how many there are. Faith covers almost four entire columns in my Strong’s Concordance. And the print is minuscule. Even if I had young eyes the print would be tiny.

FAITH THAT GROWS

So, how big is your faith? Is it strong enough to trust God? Even if you will no longer be here to see your prayers answered?

Let me challenge you to grow your faith in the coming weeks. Dig into the Word. Spend time in prayer. Intercede on behalf of those you love. Pray for their faith to grow, or for it just to take root, like a tiny mustard seed that grows into a big, big tree in which the birds love to nest.

Don’t forget to pray boldly–and believe.

That, my friends, is faith.

Blessings, y’all!

I grew up watching Hovie Lister and the Statesmen Gospel Quartet. He’s the first man to sing here. He’s in heaven now along with George Younce of the Cathedral Quartet on the left, the bass. That’s Ernie Haase on the right singing that high note at the end. He has his own group now called Signature Sound. They formed in 2002. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sung this song. I was a young teen the first time if memory serves me. I cannot believe I found this to accompany this post. I pray this blesses you in some way today. Ah, memories. That’s what life is made up of.
