Mary’s Lullaby
My prayer for each of you this Christmas is that you will be filled with unspeakable joy as we marvel at this precious child God sent to us. He’s so many things to us, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. I’m so thankful for what He means to me. Each of us has a personal story of how we came to know Jesus as our Savior. Think about that moment as we celebrate the birth of our Lord this Christmas. Rather than a long blog post, I’m posting a poem I wrote a few years ago. This first appeared in one of Yvonne Lehman’s Christmas Moments books.
Mary’s Lullaby
In the stillness of the stable
Mary sang a lullaby
As she gently rocked her baby
Neath the starry, starry sky
You’re the Word of God Incarnate
You are prophecy fulfilled
You’re the Light that shines in darkness
You’re the Love of God revealed
You are Alpha and Omega
The Beginning and The End
You’re the Hope of all the hopeless
You’re the Whisper in the wind
You’re the Star from Jacob shining
Holy One of Israel
You’re the Servant of Jehovah
You’re the Truth within the Veil
You’re the Lamb of God, Messiah
You are God’s beloved Son
Holy Spirit, God the Father
Ever Three and Ever One
As the shepherds gathered ‘round them
And the angel choirs did sing
Mary rocked her little baby
Prince of Peace, and King of Kings
The painting at the top, used in my meme, is by Jacopo Bassano. It is in CC and is of common use with no fees. Some say the artist is in my Bassano family. I’m not sure. I have more research to do on that. My 10X great-grandmother was Lucrece (Lucretia) Bassano who married Nicholas Lanier, the Elder. They are the grandparents of my cousin, Nicholas Lanier, the Younger who was Master of the King’s Music in the court of James I of the King James Bible. I love knowing these things about my roots. The Bassano family were not only artists, they were also instrument makers. They created the sackbut, the precursor of the trombone. Nicholas Lanier, the Younger, was also an artist. I love seeing the genes passed down to my children and grandchildren. Need help finding your roots? Let me know. Maybe I can help.
You probably know this group. They are so good. Close harmonies. Can’t you hear all the angels and shepherds, Mary and Joseph, all the hosts of heaven singing this to our Savior? Merry Christmas Blessings, y’all.
