If AI Takes Over Most Jobs – What’s Next?
A recent conversation between my husband, one of our four sons, and I brought up the topic of AI taking over so many jobs. The son mentioned recently lost his very good job in the IT sector to AI. He loved that job, and he’s having a hard time finding work. Where do we go from here? What’s next?
That conversation was very interesting. We talked about how quickly things are happening. I mentioned having seen a reel in which two people were conversing about how quickly movies will be made in the near future (they suggested 2027 at the latest). AI is capable of creating the actors, the script, the scenery, the music, anything having to do with movie making . . . in mere seconds. Sound impossible? Not according to those who are far more knowledgeable about such than I.
USING AI
I don’t use AI to write my words. I’m perfectly capable of that on my own. I have used AI for research. I’ve heard from several friends that they use it for research as well. Also, some use it as a brainstorming partner. I don’t see anything wrong with that as long as the idea is yours and you write every word, not relying on any from AI for your story. Brainstorming feels no different from a group of friends sitting around and brainstorming novel after novel during a writing retreat. Just be sure AI’s generated thoughts align with the story within you. If not, then find a friend.
UBI
I went further with this idea and things we discussed in our conversation. I asked the question that is the title of this post. AI quickly gave me a few answers. Some of them, one in particular voiced by two of my children this week, was the idea of Universal Basic Income or UBI. I’d never heard of this, but apparently it is something our young people are thinking about quite a bit. If you simply search for the term with your search engine, many answers will appear.

Here are some ideas included in the answers I received yesterday. These popped up in just a matter of seconds. Some of the words below are not my own but are from AI at ChatGpt. You will know which are mine.
They suggested we will enter a post-labor economy or post-security society. Productivity will remain high, but human labor is no longer the primary source of value.
Wealth creation shifts from individuals doing work to those who own or control the systems that produce (AI, data, infrastructure).
Social Contracts—education, employment, retirement—have to be redefined, because they were all built on the assumption that people work for income.
Scary thoughts, huh? I agree.
AI ASKED THIS QUESTION
What is the role of humans in a world where survival doesn’t depend on working?
First of all, what a crazy thought. I’m too old to even think about such, but apparently my children, and likely my grandchildren have wondered this. The list AI supplied to me was far too long to include in just one blog post. I certainly do not want to dig any deeper into this. My main purpose in asking the question in the first place was to find answers for my son who has lost his job to AI and who has had a hard time finding one in his IT field.
You may see the answers it gave if you simply go to ChatGpt.com and type the title of this post into their blank space. Hopefully, they won’t have changed their thoughts between your reading this and you asking the question.
FROM A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE
I must say I put my faith in God and not in man, and certainly not in a machine. When it feels as if the earth beneath our feet is crumbling, that all we ever knew is being shaken, my friend, Lori Brown, supplied this Scripture in her FB post yesterday: Psalm 16:8 (ESV). I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.
Keep the faith friends. We all know Who holds tomorrow. God is still on His throne. Still in control of everything here on earth. He alone is Sovereign. Trust Him. Pray without ceasing. Come quickly Lord Jesus!
Blessings, y’all!
I just love this song! I’ve sung it many times and it seems appropriate for the times in which we are living. You know I love Larry Ford!! Blessings to all of you!

The Conversation
Thanks for sharing, Debbie! It is all very scary to me but also good to stay informed. And, all we can do is trust God to care for us until He comes. I echo your, “Come quickly, Lord Jesus!”
Jane,
It’s the things that they say are coming that frighten me the most. Keep praying!
Deb
Very interesting post, Debbie. Thanks for sharing. Praying for your son and his job search!
Joni,
Those prayers are so appreciated. So many have lost jobs to AI.
I doubt the inventors gave this a second thought.
