God is in the Details

I stepped onto our back deck one day this past week and there, at my feet was part of a blossom from the very large Tulip Poplar growing a few yards away. This little petal had such vibrant colors and a pattern that grabbed my attention. The amount of detail in that one little petal, not two inches long intrigued me. My mind went to work asking a myriad of questions.

Then I thought that if God put so much thought into creating this one little blossom on this gigantic tree, how much greater must His attention be to the minute details of my life.

While we are going about our daily lives, yes, even now and maybe especially now in this shelter-in-place environment in which we’ve found ourselves, God is behind the scenes working out even the smallest of details, just as He’s always done.

It’s no accident that I’m blonde and blue-eyed, that my children are as different as they can be. Two have very dark, almost black hair. One of those two has dark, dark eyes, while the other has his granddaddy’s blue eyes. One is slightly redheaded like his grandmother and his grandpa with his grandmother’s green eyes. The eldest has brown hair, but not as dark as the others mentioned, but he, like the dark-eyed one, got his Dad’s dark eyes, a trait likely passed down from my husband’s mother’s side of the family.

If God put this kind of thought and energy into making you uniquely you, imagine how involved He wants to be in our daily lives. He doesn’t want to simply exist, He wants us to turn to Him for even the smallest of things. If we don’t learn to turn to Him for the little things, how will we know to turn to Him for the truly big things? To trust Him? My friend, Robin Luftig, wrote a book, God’s Best During Your Worst. It is so appropriate for the days we are currently living. God asked her, Do you trust me? If you are in need of encouragement for these strange days, or if you are struggling with anything, this book is for you.

Right now I’d dare say that each of us is being faced with the biggest thing we’ve ever encountered. This virus has interrupted our way of living. It’s taken our jobs, our livelihood, our connection to those we love the most. It’s robbed us of life as we’ve always known it. But friends, be assured. El Roi, The God Who Sees, is indeed seeing you. He knows our circumstances. He’s in the most minute details of our lives. He even knows the number of hairs on our heads (Luke 12:7).

God who sees, who knows all things, who is in control, knows the very second this is going to end. He knows where you will be in that moment. He knows where you’ll be a year from that moment, five years, the rest of your life from that moment. He’s the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for His sheep (John 10:14-15).

So be of good cheer. God sees, God knows. He’s acutely aware of where we all are this very minute. He’s in the most minute details of our lives. And He’ll be there the very minute this is over.

Deb, this is so comforting! I’ve been praying for Joy, that the doctors will search every detail so that she can be healed by The Great Physician Himself.
