When The Unexpected Happens

Y’all are going to think I’m totally losing it. Actually, when I was behind with last week’s blog, I didn’t anticipate that happening again this week. One certainly doesn’t plan an emergency dental appointment. Having that tooth extracted on Tuesday made me lose a day or two this week. So, here I am again, late with my blog post. Sigh.

As believers, we put all our days into God’s hands. Some days end with us saying, well, that was a good day. Others end like my Tuesday, with unexpected events and quick decisions having to be made. Some, like Tuesday and yesterday, carry with them a bit of pain, in one way or another.

But through all of them, we put our trust in our Sovereign God.

WORDS OF WISDOM

King Solomon wrote these wonderful words of wisdom for us centuries ago. They are still applicable to our lives today. Trust in the LORD with all our heart, and do not lean on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5 ESV).

Clearly, if I didn’t trust in God, I’d be a whole heap of trouble in all things, not just the unexpected. I do put my trust, faith, and all my hope in Him and I still do things like not getting a blog out on time. Imagine how poorly my writing life would go if I didn’t have Him right here with me, guiding me. And let’s not forget just trying to navigate the crazy world we live in right now.

The second half of the above verse says, In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths (Proverbs 3:6 ESV). Well, I do believe this to be true, just as I believe every Word in the Bible is God-breathed. But sometimes, our paths take unexpected byways. Does that make them any less straight? Not when we put our faith and trust in Him.

OUR OMNISCIENT GOD – HE ALREADY KNEW

See, He knew Tuesday was coming. He knew I’d have to make quick decisions about something as simple (or not so much at this age) as having a tooth extracted. My first action upon being told that the tooth had to come out and right then, was to call my husband. He was dutifully waiting for me in the car. I asked him to pray for me. No doubt, those prayers reached the throne room and got me through the ordeal. As it turned out, it wasn’t as simple as you may think, but I’ll spare you the details.

If I rely on God for things such as this, you can only imagine how much I rely on Him for the really big things in life. Like watching over our four sons, our DIL, and our granddaughters. We even pray for our grand dogs as they are God’s creation, too.

Just today, prayers we’ve prayed for one son were answered in the most amazing way. We are rejoicing over here in western North Carolina. God is so good, all the time.

So, when the unexpected happens, both bad and good, be sure to stop and give God the glory. He knows where this path is leading and He has you right in the palm of His mighty and loving hands.

Do you put your trust in God? Do you trust Him not only with today, but with your eternity? Read the Gospel of John to get a good view of who Jesus is. Then, read the book of Romans and pay close attention to Romans 10:9. It tells you what you must do to spend eternity with God. Surrendering your life to God will be the best decision you will make in this earthly life.

Blessings, y’all!
