JOY –The Third Candle

As I gaze upon our festive gold and white tree with the gold skirt adorning its base for at least twenty years, I ponder what all this represents. If not for Jesus, the God-man, coming into the world in the first place, we wouldn’t be celebrating a day called Christmas. Yet, here He is. Emmanuel—God with us.

This past Sunday, we lit the third candle of Advent—JOY. Is there a more joyous time on the Christian calendar than Christmas? Even two thousand years later, it is still celebrated as a time of wonder and joy unspeakable. We need only look at how little children approach Christmas to see this.

Doing a search for Scriptures with joy in them, I found that many include rejoice, a form of joy. In that list of thirty, so many favorites popped out. Here are two that speak to my heart.

TWO FAVORITE SCRIPTURES WITH JOY

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing (Zephania 3:17 ESV).

For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands (Isaiah 55:12 ESV).

Now that is joy. But imagine the joy on that first Christmas Day. Especially that of Mary and Joseph and all those who knew that this little baby was and is Messiah. And here we are, two thousand years later still celebrating with great joy, with singing, and with the lighting of the joy candle.

MAY YOUR HEARTS OVERFLOW WITH JOY

This Christmas, I pray your hearts will overflow with joy. May you and your family feel His peace and His presence as you celebrate this joyous day.

Blessings, y’all!

Debbie

This is new to me, but it is perfect for the selected Scriptures! Blessings!
