The Power of Spirit and Song – 3 Truths

Our text this week is 1 Samuel 16:13-23. Samuel anoints David And the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon him from that day forward (vs. 13b ESV). The very next verse tells us that the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and a harmful spirit from the LORD tormented him (vs. 14 ESV). How quickly things can change.

Pastor Justin relayed three truths from this passage.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE SOURCE OF OUR POWER

It was Holy Spirit who empowered David to be the king he needed to be. Think about it. Could a simple shepherd boy accomplish all the things David did without a Source of power? Very doubtful. God granted favor to David so that he could accomplish God’s purpose for his life.

HOLY SPIRIT IS THE SOURCE OF OUR PROBLEMS

You read that correctly. Think about your life since you’ve become a Christian. I mean a real, Spirit-indwelled Christian, not someone who only talks the talk. I know – I’ve been there and done that. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit changes everything.

Was David’s life easy after that day Samuel anointed him? No, he still had to tend to the sheep. After all, he was still a boy, even though he was the chosen King of Israel. He still had to keep lions and bears away from the sheep. He would later have to fight Goliath. And now, he’s on the run from Saul. He ran for years, taking refuge in the wilderness, often living in caves.

Look at the Psalms David wrote during those years. Go to your Bible and seek those that appear to have been written during that time. Even his own son chased after him with the idea of killing him. What a mess!

Have you been in a situation like that? Have you listened to the lies of satan telling you that you just don’t measure up? That you can’t be this or that? Have you heard satan whisper, “God doesn’t love you.” Friends, those are lies. All lies from the father of lies and the author of confusion. Don’t fall into his traps. Call upon the name of Jesus! He told us, In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world (John 16:33 ESV). What a promise, and glory to God!

WORSHIP IS A WEAPON

God hasn’t left us without a weapon, Pastor Justin. When we worship, Holy Spirit is in the midst of it. Jesus is there in our presence. Our worship will always be stronger than the enemy. In the Bible, The Lion of Judah is Jesus. The lion represents His strength, power, and majesty as the King of Kings. The roaring lion in the Bible represents the strength and the voice of God. Paul Wilbur wrote a beautiful song with these words, When we worship, the Lion of Judah roars! Don’t you know that’s the truth? Joel 3:16 (ESV) says, The LORD roars from Zion, and utters his voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth quake. But the LORD is a refuge to his people, a stronghold to the people of Israel.

Psalm 27 was written by David. In it, David reminds us that we need fear nothing when we have God on our side. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? (Psalm 27:1a ESV). In Psalm 149, we read, Let the high praises of God be in their throats and two-edged swords in their hands (ESV).

Friends, when we have God on our side, we need fear no scheme of satan. The LORD is on our side. Just raise your hands and start singing and praising. Watch that devil flee from you!

FINAL THOUGHTS

My friends, do you know where you will spend eternity? There are only two choices. You must decide where you will be. Remember, God gave us free will. You are either on God’s side or on satan’s side. I pray you choose to live for all eternity with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and not in a lake of fire.

Go to your Bible and read the Gospel of John which will show you exactly who Jesus is and what He did for you. He loves you more than I can tell you in a mere few words. From there, read the book of Romans which will show you how to live as a Jesus-Follower.

Here’s the thing. No prayer, just mere words repeated, will get you into life eternal with God. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in your heart that  God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9 ESV).

He is coming again. Make sure you are ready!!

Blessings, y’all!

This is from a concert given many years ago. You know I’m a huge Paul Wilbur fan. I pray this blesses you!
