Bible Reading Plan – 2022

My husband and I have begun our third chronological reading of our Bibles. This year, we thought we’d try a different plan. In the past we’ve followed Tara Leigh Cobble and her Bible Recap.

Knowing we wanted a deeper study and not just the twenty or so minutes it takes to do her daily plan, we embarked on finding something new. J found a Bible he liked, the ESV Inductive Study Bible. We had one already, so I ordered one for me.

While I liked ESV, I didn’t like the weight of this Bible or the hard cover. I much prefer a leather or leather-like one. So, off I went on a search for a Bible I could put all my notes in.

KEYSTONE COPS – HERE WE COME

This turned into a Keystone Cops scenario—chasing after one kind of Bible after another. Truly, I ordered and returned no less than six to eight different Bibles, only to wind up with the same one I used last year. New, of course. The ESV Single-Column Journaling Bible, large print (9.5 font), by Crossway.

Years ago, we purchased an NLT Life-Application Chronological Bible. We’d had it for years and it lay unused. I’d glanced through it, but it seemed like too much information to me at the time. And I didn’t understand chronological then. Now, I can’t get enough info, and chronological is what I prefer.

We are using this Bible along with our ESV Bibles. I don’t care for the NLT translation, but I do like all the notes at the bottoms of the pages and all the other maps and charts in this Bible. They did a superb job of this.

RIGHT BACK WHERE WE STARTED FROM

After all this, we went back to Tara Leigh’s Bible Recap study plan. It’s a bit different from the NLT chronological Bible but that isn’t a problem. We simply find the daily reading and find that in our Bibles. Once we’ve done Tara Leigh’s readings for the day, we make our notes along with her in Bible Recap, then, we go to the NLT Bible for more notes and information.

We use the You Version Bible App. for the reading portion. We like the voice of the ESV narrator. In our opinion, he’s the best out there. I wish I could tell you his name, but I haven’t been able to find that. Let me know if you know who he is, please.

NEW YEAR, NEW MESSAGES

It doesn’t matter how many times one reads their Bible; God always shows us something new each time through. Having this Life-Application version has been a big help to us.

We’re in the book of Job, and we’re behind due to all the ordering and sending back that was done early on, but we’re sticking to Tara Leigh’s daily reading plan and then discussing it while reading the notes in the Life-Application Bible. Our discussions have been meaningful and deep.

One thing we have done for the past couple of years as we begin each book is to watch the Bible Project explanation of what each book is about. This year, we’ve added listening to their podcast after we read. They have Q&R there and some of the comments have us scratching our heads. Honestly, it has been the source of much discussion. If you’ve followed this, please let us know what you think.

Have you picked a Bible reading plan for 2022? If you have, let us know which one you’re following. Whatever it is, I’m so happy you are staying in God’s Word.

Blessings, y’all!

Y’all know I’m a David fan. I looked for something to go with this and was stumped. This is a new to me. I know Sandi Patty’s version and have sung it a few times. This is David’s arrangement giving tribute to Dottie Rambo. who wrote the original, and the arrangement Sandi created. I know you’ll be blessed. Man! Can he sing!!

I love Bibles. I fill them up, highlighting, and writing prayers, and comments from messages. Then I buy a new one. Searching for a Bible is so much fun. I finished a three year laymen’s Bible school that taught the KJV was most accurate, but you could use the other versions for commentary. Other people recommend the ESV as the most word for word accurate. My favorite Bible to use right now is a parallel Bible with KJV on one side and NLT on the other. It is interesting to compare what they say to see if it matches up. I started reading through the Bible last year and I still have a ways to go. I’m taking my time. It takes me a while to ponder over everything:)

Jane, I do, too! Mine looks like a rainbow when I open it. We love taking out time this year, or two. We’re in Job still. Seeing new things daily!!
